This fall, Loyola University Chicago’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) will launch the “Learning with Purpose” speaker series, a new initiative designed to foster timely, engaging conversations that bridge real-world experience with purposeful learning.

The series will feature SCPS faculty and distinguished guest speakers who bring professional expertise and personal insight to issues shaping our communities. Events are open to Loyola students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the public.

In October, the series will feature Rev. James Martin, S.J., Jesuit priest and New York Times bestselling author, for a virtual event. His session will explore the future of the Catholic Church under Pope Leo XIV, offering an inside look at the new Pope’s background, spirituality, and hopes for the future.

“At Loyola, we’re committed to helping students, adult learners, and the broader community engage in meaningful conversations around today’s most pressing issues,” said SCPS Dean Jim Parenti. “This series is an extension of our Jesuit mission and a celebration of lifelong learning.”

The series will kick off in September with “Future-Proof: How to Build Financial Security Through Smart Career Moves,” led by SCPS Paralegal Studies Instructor Katrice Miller. Miller will provide practical guidance on managing financial commitments and making strategic career decisions in an evolving economy.

In November, the series continues with a veteran-focused event featuring retired Army Lt. Colonel and SCPS Instructor Lisa Schlosser. Schlosser will explore the future of cybersecurity in the age of AI across military and private sectors.

The September and November events will be held on Loyola’s Water Tower Campus, with a virtual option available. The October event will be virtual.
