By Natalie Pitluck

September 22, 2025

With students settled into the new semester at Loyola, it’s almost time for families to get a closer look at life as a Rambler. Family Weekend 2025 will take place September 27–28, kicking off with entertainment, food, and a full schedule of activities.

“Going to college is an experience that touches the whole family—parents, siblings, extended family members, and friends,” said Keith Champagne, vice president for Student Development. “Family Weekend offers a variety of opportunities to gather and celebrate this milestone, immerse yourself in student life, and explore our beautiful campus in the great city of Chicago.”

Before the festivities begin, check out the schedule and these tips and tricks to make the most of Family Weekend at Loyola.

Do: Register in advance

Online registration for Family Weekend is open through Thursday, September 25. Registration will be available in person on Saturday, September 27 starting at 9 a.m. and as late as 1 p.m. as space permits.

Check-in will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The check-in area and on-site registration can be found in Damen Den, located in Damen Student Center. Tickets for Big Bus Tours will be available during this time while supplies last.

Do: Plan the visit

Before the weekend begins, check out the schedule for a full list of offered activities, and consider purchasing tickets for the award-winning music program Una Noche de Encanto, an event open to the public happening on campus on September 27.

Use the Loyola CTA station to explore Chicago during Family Weekend.

Don’t: Underestimate traffic

Get familiar with the campus layout by reviewing the Lake Shore Campus map and learn how to access it.

For those driving, parking will be available in the Main Parking Structure. Parking can also be found in Fordham Garage, located off North Sheridan Road. Parking garages are open until 2 a.m., and no overnight parking is allowed.

Taking the CTA? The Red Line Loyola ‘L’ stop and several bus routes drop you right at campus. Fares for buses and the ‘L’ can be purchased on the Ventra app or in person at train stations. Tap to pay is also available with a physical card or mobile device.

Do: Explore like a Rambler

See all Loyola has to offer by checking out the view from the Information Commons, stopping by the Madonna della Strada Chapel, or climbing the Rock Wall at Halas Recreation Center. Support local and student favorite businesses by grabbing a meal at Rice Thai Cafe or a coffee at Metropolis. See more local businesses in the Office of Neighborhood Initiatives’ Ramblin Around Guide.

Want a taste of downtown Chicago? Hop on the CTA’s 147 Outer Drive Express bus at the Loyola stop for a straight shot to Loyola’s Water Tower Campus, steps from the Magnificent Mile and Michigan Avenue shopping.

Don’t: Ignore campus wisdom

There are some things students learn during their time at Loyola that everyone on campus should know. Pay attention at the crosswalks, and wait for the walk signal. Don’t try to feed the squirrels. Bring a light jacket and keep lids on your cups—the lakefront breeze can turn into a full-on wind tunnel. Chicago bonus tip: no ketchup on a hot dog.

Do: Have fun
