Snowflakes swirled through the night air as members of the Loyola University Chicago community gathered at St. Ignatius Community Plaza on Sunday, November 9, for the University’s tree and campus lighting celebration.
Bundled against the cold, attendees enjoyed hot chocolate and carols sung by the University Chorale before Father Thomas W. Neitzke, S.J., blessed the towering spruce adorned with ornaments and ribbons. President Mark C. Reed, Ed.D., then offered remarks as the tree—and festive lights across Loyola’s Lake Shore, Water Tower, and Health Sciences campuses—were lit in unison.
Following the ceremony, the celebration continued indoors at Gentile Arena and Damen Student Center, where students created custom snow globes, posed inside a giant snow globe photo booth, and enjoyed a screening of the holiday classic Elf.
The evening marked a jubilant start to the holiday season for the entire Loyola community.
