The fall semester is in full swing, and there’s no shortage of activities happening on all of Loyola’s campuses. Explore a selection of activities and events to add to your calendar in the next two weeks.  

Religion, Nostalgia, and Modern America: Book Talk by Christopher Cantwell  

September 8, Information Commons, 4:30 p.m.–6 p.m. 

Join the History Department for a faculty book talk with Christopher Cantwell, associate professor of digital public history, to discuss his new book The Gospel According to Frank Wood: Memory and the Making of White American Evangelicalism. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome, and light refreshments will be provided.  

Community Night at the Chicago White Sox

September 8, Rate Field, 5:10 p.m.-9 p.m.  

Cheer on the White Sox and support Loyola at Rate Field. Each discounted game ticket includes a limited-edition co-branded White Sox and Loyola quarter-zip.  

FNAR Fest 

September 10, Ralph Arnold Annex, 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m.  

Meet students and faculty, learn more about the programs in Studio Art, Art History, and Visual Communication, and explore hands-on activities including craft workshops, wheel throwing, and more.  

Rambler Men’s Soccer vs. SIUE 

September 10, Loyola Soccer Park, 6:30 p.m.  

Cheer on the Ramblers as they take on SIUE at home.  

Midnight Bike Ride  

September 10, Madonna della Strada Chapel, 9 p.m.-6 a.m. 

Join history professor Timothy Gilfoyle for the annual Midnight Bike Ride, a traditon since 1989, to learn more about Chicago and American history through various landmarks throughout the city.  

Friday Night Flick: Pitch Perfect 

September 11, Damen Cinema, 6:45 p.m.-9 p.m.  

Join the Department of Programming for a screening of Pitch Perfect, complete with snacks and popcorn.  

LEAF Retreat 

September 11-13, Loyola University Chicago Retreat and Ecology Campus  

Take time away from the busyness of campus and Chicago city life at the Loyola Eco-spirituality Adventure Fall (LEAF) Retreat, designed for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone seeking the Divine in nature. All faith backgrounds are welcome.  

Day of Community and Service (HSC) 

September 12, Health Sciences Campus  

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to meet leaders from community organizations in Maywood and serve alongside partner organizations at service sites throughout Maywood at the annual Day of Community and Service. Register by Tuesday, September 8, to attend.

Mindful Recess: Support for Mindful Living  

September 14, Information Commons 317, 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. 

Develop a mindfulness practice for everyday with short meditation exercises, led by Dianna Stencel, mindfulness-based instructor in the Wellness Center. Sessions are ongoing and newcomers are always welcome.  

Fallible Fictions: New Work by Lilly Allan and Catherine Kammerer 

September 17, Ralph Arnold Annex, 5 p.m. 

In a new exhibition by recent graduates Lilly Allan and Catherine Kammerer, the artists integrate drawing, material experimentation, textiles, natural fibers, and dyes to explore imaginative life forms and craft techniques. The artists will be on campus for a free artist talk on September 17, with the exhibit running from September 10 to October 3.
