More than 2,000 parents, siblings, extended family, and friends visited Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus in late September, marking the largest Family Weekend to date. Throughout the sunny, early fall weekend, they got a taste of life as a Rambler, from sports games to touring Chicago and capped off by Loyola’s first ever drone show.
“Families are a vital part of our Loyola community and it is a joy and privilege to welcome them to campus each year for Family Weekend,” said Keith M. Champagne, vice president for student development. “Our staff treasure this tradition as an opportunity for our students and their families to experience life at Loyola and make precious memories together.”
For many visitors, this was the first time seeing their students since the semester began and provided the opportunity to step into their world—from sharing meals in the dining halls to exploring favorite campus spots and amenities.
Throughout the weekend, families cheered on the Ramblers at Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Soccer games, climbed the rock wall at Halas Recreation Center, sipped “java” with the Jesuits at Ignatius House, and enjoyed performances from students at the Family Weekend Concert.
Attendees were also invited off campus to explore the sights, sounds, history, and culture of the city, including on an open-top sightseeing bus tour and free admission to the world class Art Institute of Chicago.
This year, Family Weekend attendees experienced Loyola’s first drone light show presented by Sky Elements. The community gathered to watch thousands of drones light up the night sky, flying over the dome of Cudahy Science Hall to assemble iconic Loyola images and symbols above the East Quad.
Families of Loyola students are invited to stay connected with Loyola through the Parent and Family Advisory Council and Rambler Families newsletter.
