As Loyola University Chicago prepares to welcome almost 5,000 new and returning students, the University aims to ensure a smooth and efficient move-in process for everyone involved.
Here are some key reminders and updates for Move-In 2024:
Democratic National Convention impact
The Democratic National Convention (DNC) will be held in Chicago from August 19 to 22. Although DNC events are not scheduled near the Lake Shore Campus, the University anticipates increased traffic throughout the Chicagoland area and potential street closures in Downtown Chicago.
To ensure a smooth move-in experience, students and families should consider the following:
- Plan Your Route: Students and families are advised to plan their travel routes carefully to avoid expected congestion and delays. Consideration of alternative routes that bypass high-traffic areas is recommended.
- Allow Extra Time: It is strongly encouraged that extra travel time be allowed on move-in days to ensure a stress-free arrival.
- Stay Informed: Keeping an eye on local traffic reports and public transportation updates for any real-time changes that might affect travel plans is advisable. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to update their contact information for Loyola Alert and Loyola Advisory which provide time-sensitive alerts in the event of imminent threats or significant incidents that could disrupt operations at any of Loyola’s three Chicagoland campuses.
Parking on campus
During Move-In 2024, the Main Parking Structure on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus will be restricted to students moving onto campus from Monday, August 19 through Thursday, August 22.
For those with parking permits, the following alternative parking options are available:
- Fordham Garage: Located at 6455 N. Sheridan Rd. A Loyola Campus Card will be required to enter Fordham Garage on these days.
- West Loyola Lot: Located at 1236 W. Loyola Ave.
- Contractor’s Lot: Located at 1227 W. Loyola Ave.
- St. Louis Lot: Located at 1245 W. Loyola Ave. (entry to the St. Louis lot is in the alley).
The University appreciates cooperation and understanding as it accommodates students during this busy time.
