Loyola welcomes the Class of 2028

This month, Loyola welcomes 3,321 students representing 47 states and 45 countries.

August 28, 2024

The 2024-25 academic year kicked off with New Student Convocation, held on Friday, August 23, at Gentile Arena. This annual milestone event featured inspiring remarks from university leadership, faculty, and student leaders, who welcomed the class with open arms.

Before the ceremony, all freshmen and transfer students participated in a cherished Loyola tradition—entering through the green Cudahy Library doors. Faculty and staff lined the entrance, forming a cheer tunnel to encourage the new students as they processed through the doors and across the Lake Shore Campus. These doors only open twice a year: first, for new students entering Loyola, and later, for graduating seniors exiting after the Senior Toast, symbolizing both the beginning and the culmination of their Loyola journey.

Loyola welcomes 3,321 students representing 47 states and 45 countries from around the globe.

This year’s incoming class reflects Loyola’s commitment to diversity, with 54% of the class identifying as students of color. Students hail from across the United States, with Illinois, Minnesota, California, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio being the top represented states. Among the new students, 2,808 are freshmen, and 513 are transfer students, contributing to the dynamic community that defines Loyola.
