Move-in 2025: Important Information and Reminders

As Loyola University Chicago prepares to welcome almost 5,000 new and returning students, some key reminders are available to ensure a smooth start of the semester.  

Key Dates:

  • August 18 to 30: With over 30 events planned, Welcome Week is the opportunity for new students to get acclimated to Loyola and have fun.  
  • August 18-23: Move-In, see details and tips below.  
  • August 25: First day of undergraduate classes 

Move-In 

Parking during Move-In  

During Move-In 2025, the Main Parking Structure on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus will be restricted to students moving onto campus from Monday, August 18 through Thursday, August 21.  

For those with parking permits, the following alternative parking options are available:  

  • Fordham Garage: Located at 6455 N. Sheridan Rd. A Loyola Campus Card will be required to enter Fordham Garage on these days.  
  • West Loyola Lot: Located at 1236 W. Loyola Ave.  
  • Contractor’s Lot: Located at 1227 W. Loyola Ave.  
  • St. Louis Lot: Located at 1245 W. Loyola Ave. (entry to the St. Louis lot is in the alley).  

The University appreciates cooperation and understanding as it accommodates students and families during this busy time.  

Move-in instructions for students

Move-in for students living on campus for the 2025-2026 academic year will take place August 18 through August 23. Students should refer to their Loyola email for their assigned move in date and time along with instructions.   

The Residence Life team will be on hand to assist students and families with move-in. It is important to follow the directions of Residence Life staff to ensure a smooth process. Students should remember to bring their student ID, a copy of their housing assignment, and any necessary move-in paperwork.  

Move-In Dates: 

  • Baumhart Hall Move-In: Monday, August 18 
  • Incoming First Year Student Move-In: Monday, August 18- Wednesday, August 20 

 LSC Returning and Upperclass Student Move-In: 

  • Wednesday, August 20: Bellarmine (1/3 of the building) and Regis (1/2 of the building) 
  • Thursday, August 21: Bellarmine (2/3 of the building), Marquette, Marquette South, Messina, Regis (1/2 of the building), Santa Clara and Spring Hill 
  • Saturday, August 23: Canisius, Fairfield, Fordham, Georgetown, LeMoyne, Seattle, St. Louis and Xavier

Start of semester reminders

Parking tips during the semester

Once the semester begins, keep these tips in mind for quicker exits from the Main Parking Structure: 

  • Leave the garage during non-peak times when possible. 
  • Pay for daily tickets before reaching the exit. 
  • Use both exit lanes. 
  • Wait for the gate to close between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you before proceeding. 
  • Consider turning left or going straight at the light instead of turning right. 
  • Be patient and courteous to pedestrians and fellow drivers.

Intercampus shuttle 

Shuttle service between the Lake Shore Campus and Water Tower Campus begins Monday, August 25, and runs Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to midnight. 

An additional shuttle departs the Water Tower Campus at 9:05 p.m. to Union and Ogilvie train stations. 

Students, faculty, and staff can track shuttle buses and get real-time alerts via TripShot. Loyola IDs are required to board. 

Note: 

  • On Thursday, August 28 (1–9 p.m.), the Water Tower Campus stop will be temporarily moved to Pearson St. and Michigan Ave. during the Welcome Week Block Party. 
  • On Friday, August 29, the last shuttle departs both campuses at 7 p.m. 
  • There will be no shuttle service on Labor Day (Monday, September 1). Regular operations resume Tuesday, September 2. 

8-RIDE campus transportation

8-RIDE service resumes on Sunday, August 24, at 7 p.m. On Labor Day, September 1, a reduced number of vans will operate from 7 p.m. to midnight. Regular service resumes Tuesday, September 2.  

Loyola IDs must be shown to board. Riders can book rides and get real-time updates through TripShot or by calling 773.508.7433.

U-Pass transit cards 

Fall U-Pass activation dates vary by program and can be found on the U-Pass website. 

  • Newly eligible students can visit the site for distribution information and replacement card requests. 
  • To opt out of U-Pass, complete the waiver by Monday, September 9: U-Pass Opt Out. 
  • Health Sciences and other previously non-participating students may now opt in: U-Pass Opt In.
