Things to do at Loyola: March 27-April 9

With spring officially arrived, enjoy opportunities to get involved on campus and participate in events. Try out salsa dancing, attend an art exhibition, or attend Holy Week services over the next two weeks.  

Variable Spaces: Fine Arts Minor Exhibition 

March 19April 11, Ralph Arnold Gallery  

The Variable Spaces exhibition showcases work from select seniors minoring in Fine Arts, including Photography & Video Art, Ceramics & Sculpture, Drawing, and Painting & Printmaking.  

Rent  

March 26April 12, Newhart Family Theatre 

See the Department of Fine and Performing Art’s performance of Rent, the Tony award-winning musical that follows roommates as they struggle through life, love, and trying to make ends meet as artists in New York City.  

The American Dream Art Show 

March 27, 4 p.m.6 p.m., Damen Student Center Den 

Explore student artists’ interpretations of the American Dream at the American Dream Art Show, hosted by the Center for Student Inclusion and Belonging, LUCES, and Monarch Initiative.  

Salsa Social Night  

March 27, 6:30 p.m.–9 p.m., Crown Center Lobby 

Dance the night away at the Latin America Student Organization, the Latin Dance Club, and the Puerto Rican Student Association’s first Salsa Social. The event will feature a live performance from Mayambo Siboney Dance Academy, Flaco’s Tacos, and a celebration of dance, community, and culture.  

Softball vs. St. Bonaventure  

March 28, 12 p.m., Loyola Softball Park 

Cheer on the Softball team for a series of games against St. Bonaventure.  

First Date at the Art Institute of Chicago on a Wednesday Afternoon  

March 2829, Underground Laboratory Theatre 

This play follows a first date gone wrong at the Art Institute of Chicago, but with a plot twist  the character’s inner thoughts are being voiced aloud. Standby tickets are available one hour before every performance at the Mundelein Center Info Desk.  

Holy Week 

March 29–April 5, Madonna della Strada Chapel  

Students celebrating the Lenten season and Easter Sunday can see the full list of Mass times offered throughout Holy Week. Services will begin with Palm Sunday Masses and Processions and will conclude the following week with Easter Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m.  

Campus Ministry will also host the annual Via Crucis on March 30, with Stations of the Cross located across campus for attendees to engage in prayer and reflection.  

Positivity in Bloom 

March 30, 5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m., Damen South Entrance  

Make tissue paper flowers and key chains with the Emerging Leaders Program and Center for Student Engagement. Enjoy snacks and candy, spend time with friends, and show gratitude for loved ones.  

Conversation with Stuart Dybek 

April 1, 4 p.m.6 p.m., Information Commons 4th Floor  

Join Alumni Relations for a conversation with Rambler alum and author Stuart Dybek to discuss the stories, inspirations, and journeys behind his acclaimed works. Unfamiliar with Dybek? Read more about his journey from Loyola to renowned author. 

7th Annual Community Advocacy and Violence Prevention Summit 

April 7, 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Health Sciences Campus 

All are welcome to attend Loyola Stands Against Gun Violence’s 7th annual conversation on advocacy, community, and preventing firearm violence. Hear from this year’s keynote speaker Arne Duncan, founder of Chicago CRED, and local community leaders.  

Catholic Minds/Catholic Matters: Book Lecture  

April 8, 7 p.m.–8: 30 p.m., Information Commons 4th Floor 

The Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage will host Stephen M. Koeth to discuss his new book, Crabgrass Catholicism, and the ways suburbanization has affected the liberalization of the Catholic Church.  

Side Hustles @ Schreiber Lobby 

April 9, 11 a.m.–1:30 p.m., Schreiber Lobby 

The annual Ignite Lab event showcases how student side hustles can be serious businesses. Drop in to see the creative products and services created by Loyola students, celebrate entrepreneurial spirit, and see who takes home awards.

Taiko Performance 

April 9, 7 p.m.8 p.m., Flanner Hall Auditorium 

The Loyola University Karate Club will host the Tsukasa Taiko group, who specialize in Taiko performances, the Japanese word for “drum.” All are invited to learn about the cultural significance of this art and see the performance.  

SCPS Speaker Series: Unmasking Neurodiversity 

April 9, 6 p.m.8 p.m., Wintrust Hall 

Devon Price, clinical associate professor in SCPS and author of Unmasking Autism and Unmasking for Life, will give a talk to promote an understanding of neurodiversity rooted in individuals and practices for building neurodiversity-affirming spaces.
