Things to do at Loyola: November 6-20

As the holidays approach, basketball season kicks off, and Ignatian Heritage Month begins, there is plenty happening at Loyola. Here are a few ways to connect, celebrate, and get involved in the weeks ahead. 

Women’s Basketball vs. Green Bay 

November 6, 5 p.m.–7 p.m., Gentile Arena 

Cheer on the Women’s Basketball team in their next home game against Green Bay. Students can log into their account here to claim tickets.  

Jazz Showcase  

November 6, 7:30 p.m.–9 p.m., Newhart Family Theatre  

Catch the Loyola University Chicago Jazz Ensemble’s first showcase of the year. The concert will feature a wide array of jazz styles and musicians.  

Men’s Basketball vs. Mercyhurst 

November 6, 8 p.m.–10 p.m., Gentile Arena  

Pack the stands at the Men’s Basketball game against Mercyhurst. Don’t forget to show some Rambler spirit with your maroon and gold scarf as the weather gets colder.  

CLC Canned Food Drive 

November 8, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Campus Ministry Suite, 2nd Floor of Damen 

Support the CLC Canned Food Drive by signing up to help collect or sort cans. Volunteers will meet in Campus Ministry before heading out to collect items. Donations will go to the St. Thomas of Canterbury Food Pantry and the Chicago Refugee Coalition.  

Instrumental Showcase  

November 8, 7:30 p.m.–9 p.m., Jo Ann Rooney Hall 

Join the Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble for their performances of classical and contemporary works. Student tickets can be purchased for $5 here 

Tree Lighting Celebration

November 9, 7:30 p.m.–9 p.m., West Quad 

Kick off the holiday season with this year’s tree lighting ceremony. Festivities will include carols, a snow globe building station, and a tater tot bar.  

Ignatian Heritage Month Lunch with the Jesuits 

Select days in November, 12 p.m.–1:00 p.m., Ignatius House  

During the Ignatian Heritage Month, students, faculty, and staff are invited to eat lunch with the Jesuits at Ignatius House. RSVP for select days to attend and get to know Loyola’s Jesuit Community.  

Beginnings of Loyola 

November 13, 4 p.m.–5 p.m., Simpson MPR 

Learn about the history of Loyola with Chicago historian Ellen Skerrett as a part of Ignatian Heritage Month. The presentation will highlight Fr. Arnold Damen’s vision of education and dive into Skerrett’s research on Loyola’s origins.  

Global Fest 

November 14, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., Sister Jean MPR 

Celebrate International Education Week with the Office of Global and Community Engagement’s Global Fest. The celebration will highlight the cultural diversity of Rogers Park and Edgewater with food from local restaurants, international music, and entertainment.   

Student vs. Staff Basketball Tournament 

November 14, 4 p.m.–6 p.m., Halas Courts 

Campus Recreation and Loyola Athletics are hosting a 3v3 basketball tournament where students can compete against faculty and staff. Two champion teams will face off against each other during a Men’s Basketball half-time show. Register to compete on LUCommunity.  

Game Show to Hell 

November 15, 2 p.m., Mundelein Studio 125 

Keep up the Halloween spirit by attending the Department of Fine and Performing Arts performance of Game Show to Hell. The Second Stage Project tells the story of a game show hosted by Satan and the show directors’ journey to stop him.  

November Organ Concert Series: Victoria Shorokova 

November 16, 3 p.m., Madonna della Strada Chapel 

The November installment of the Organ Concert Series will feature Victoria Shorokova. Admission is free and open to everyone. 

Savor a Summer in Rome 

November 20, 2 p.m.–4 p.m., Damen MPR 

As part of International Education Week, enjoy a taste of Itay with Global Engagement to learn more about summer study abroad opportunities.  

International Thanksgiving 

November 20, 4:30 p.m.–6 p.m., Schreiber Center Room 807 

Celebrate Thanksgiving with friends, gratitude, and food. The event is open to all students, and attendees can register here.
