Expertise In
- Bioethics
Mark Kuczewski, PhD, HEC-C, takes particular interest in the bioethical issues related to recent U.S. immigration trends and has become a spokesperson for the fair and equitable treatment of immigrant patients. Incorporating a cultural and spiritual perspective into decision-making, his work advocates for a prohibition on forced medical repatriation and the division between health insurance and immigration status. He can discuss the inclusion of DACA recipients in medical education, including his leadership in the Stritch School of Medicine becoming the first medical school in the U.S. to openly admit immigrant students without documentation. His research has explored the systemic health inequities and clinical ethics issues for undocumented patients. Kuczewski is a past president of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) and a Fellow of the Hastings Center.
