Loyola celebrates Jesuit Heritage Month 2026

October 20, 2026

What can a nearly 500-year-old tradition tell us about being human in the age of AI? This is just one of the questions that will be explored in this year’s Jesuit Heritage Month.

Each November, the Loyola community gathers to recognize Jesuit Heritage Month by honoring the legacy of St. Ignatius of Loyola and celebrating the ways Ignatian teaching continues to shape Loyola’s mission and daily life. The annual tradition offers students, faculty, and staff an invitation to deeper contemplation and renewed action in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

“We are so excited about this year’s celebration of Jesuit Heritage Month during which everyone can engage our shared mission and heritage in their particular areas of interest, expertise, and responsibility,” said Claire Noonan, vice president for Mission Integration.

The 2026 celebration offers numerous opportunities for Ramblers to get involved, from moments for personal reflection and community conversations to service opportunities and book club events. Throughout the month, the Loyola community is invited to:

  • Explore the intersection of AI and Jesuit education through panels and lectures featuring Loyola faculty members at the All Things Ignatian Special Topics: AI and Jesuit Education sessions on November 3, 10, 17, and at the Special St. Albert’s Day Bioethics Grand Rounds on November 5.
  • Reflect on Jesuit values through art by submitting creative works to the Community Service & Action Art Contest.
  • Share a meal and build connections with members of Loyola’s Jesuit community at the Lunches with the Jesuits.
  • Join the Jesuit Heritage Month Book Club for Employees to discuss Leading Toward Liberation by Annmarie Caño, which reimagines academic leadership as a practice rooted in liberation and equity.
  • Participate in the Jon Sobrino, S.J., Colloquium on Worship, Theology, and Justice, an event rooted in worship and the Catholic Intellectual tradition.
  • Attend masses and prayer experiences throughout the month, including All Saints’ Day Mass, Mass for the All Saints and Blesseds of the Society of Jesus, and Martyr’s Mass.
  • Serve the Chicago community at the Soup Kitchen at St. Thomas of Canterbury.

In addition to events happening throughout November, the Loyola community is invited to reflect personally with Ignatian principles through guided examens—led by faculty, staff, and student leaders at Loyola—and weekly podcast episodes to find moments of spiritual growth on their own schedule.
