The East Quad buzzed with excitement as graduating seniors and their guests filled the grassy lawn and spilled off to the sides, waiting in anticipation for the start of the Senior Toast. In just a few moments, students would pass through the iconic green Cudahy Library doors one last time—completing the route they took as incoming students. Sunlight sparkled through their champagne flutes, freshly etched with “alumni” along the side.
Keith Champagne, vice president for student development, urged them to hold these glasses high: “This might be the first and last time you get to do a champagne toast with someone named Champagne,” Champagne quipped. With that, “cheers” and clinking glassware rose from the crowd before students shuffled into line and guests created a cheer tunnel stretching far beyond the doors. Students beamed as they came through the doorway to the applause of the cheer tunnel; others stopped to dance to “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield, kicking off what will be a week-long celebration of the Class of 2025.
