Faculty Handbook updated with revised policies and processes

Loyola University Chicago has released the newest edition of its Faculty Handbook, effective May 1, 2025. The Handbook provides faculty with policies and procedures that guide appointments, teaching, promotion, and other aspects of academic life at the University. Among the key revisions:  

  • Approvals: Deans will now approve overload teaching assignments, courtesy and affiliate appointments, and initial requests for unpaid leaves. 
  • Faculty titles: The University Senate will no longer participate in the review of changes to faculty titles. 
  • Promotion and tenure: The Graduate School Dean will no longer review and provide recommendations on promotion and tenure dossiers. 
  • Non-discrimination policy: The policy has been updated to reflect current language. 
  • Format: The Faculty Handbook will no longer be printed and will be available online only, with updated URLs throughout. 

Faculty are encouraged to review the updated Faculty Handbook, which is available online.
