Loyola to begin expansion of nursing, science resources
Upcoming phase of the project will see the demolition of Campion Hall
April 30, 2025
A new project to expand and modernize Loyola University Chicago’s nursing and science programming will mark an important milestone this summer as the University prepares to say goodbye to Campion Hall, a long-serving residence hall at the Lake Shore Campus.
Demolition will begin in mid-June following a preparatory phase that starts May 12. The project marks one of the early milestones in the Campus Plan and the University Strategic Plan—both of which emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary learning and advancing Loyola’s presence in the health and sciences.
“Campion Hall has played an important role in Loyola’s history and in the lives of generations of students and staff who made it a meaningful place,” said Kana Henning (BBA ‘02, MBA ‘04), vice president for facilities and campus management. “We’re looking ahead to how this location can best serve our students and faculty in the decades to come.”
Specific plans are being developed for a new center for nursing and science–serving as a home for the four-year undergraduate program of the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing–and will include specialty research and teaching spaces designed to create high-impact learning experiences in a pre-professional setting.
“This is part of our campus planning to ensure that our educational facilities match the caliber of our academic programs and the needs of our students and faculty,” said Provost Douglas W. Woods, PhD. “The new center for nursing and science will be a northern gateway to the Lake Shore Campus and a space that encourages innovation, connection, and discovery.”
Located near the intersection of Albion Avenue and Sheridan Road, Campion Hall has housed a variety of campus offices over the years, including residence life and student services.
Updates on the project will be shared through the Facilities website, as well as other university and community channels.
