As part of a broader effort to align Loyola’s global locations under a clearer naming structure, Loyola’s campus in Rome will now be known as Loyola Rome. The change reflects Loyola’s deep roots in Rome while strengthening recognition among students, partners, and the broader public.
Located in the Monte Mario neighborhood, Loyola Rome has served as a home for students for decades, fostering a close-knit community grounded in academic rigor, cultural engagement, and Jesuit values. Students continue to live, study, and learn in the same supportive environment, with no changes to academic programs, staffing, or student life as a result of the name update.
Founded in 1961 as the Loyola University Chicago Rome Center for Liberal Arts, Loyola Rome is one of the oldest U.S. university programs in Rome. Across nearly 65 years, Loyola’s campus in Rome has hosted over 25,000 students from across the U.S. and beyond, providing a world-class education in a unique living-learning experience.
The legacy of the John Felice remains an important part of the story of Loyola Rome. His leadership and vision helped shape the program into what it is today as well as generations of students, and the University is committed to honoring that legacy in meaningful and lasting ways.
The transition to Loyola Rome also aligns Loyola with peer institutions that present their global locations as integral parts of their university identity, reinforcing Loyola’s commitment to global education and engagement.
