CHICAGO – April 17, 2024

Loyola University Chicago will confer degrees on nearly 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students throughout Commencement Week in May. Alongside these festivities, many schools, colleges, institutes, and University departments will host distinct receptions and academic events honoring student achievements. More than 20,000 family members, friends, and guests are expected on campus to celebrate the occasion.

Eleven esteemed individuals will deliver keynote speeches at the ceremonies for the graduates of Loyola’s colleges, schools, and institutes, including several distinguished Loyola alumni such as Chair of the Board of Trustees John Schreiber (BBA ’68) and Trustee Melody Spann Cooper (BS ’88)—as well as the Honorable Mary Jane Theis, JD (BA ’71), Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Illinois.

The University announced in March that it will confer an honorary degree on Fabio Lievano, MD, in recognition of his service, scholarship, and leadership in advancing lifesaving medical science. Dr. Lievano, who is a vice president, patient safety, scientific collaborations and new business advancements, pharmacovigilance and patient safety, epidemiology and R&D quality assurance, at AbbVie Pharmaceutical and an affiliate professor of molecular pharmacology and neuroscience in the Stritch School of Medicine, will receive the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, honoris causa.

The University’s 154th annual Commencement ceremonies will be held on the Lake Shore Campus on May 7–11. Complete details of the ceremonies are listed here.
