August 18, 2025
Jo Ann Rooney Hall filled with joy and rounds of applause on August 16 as Arrupe College graduates and their friends and family gathered for the 2025 Commencement Ceremony.
Rev. Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., PhD, president of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and Loyola’s president emeritus, delivered the commencement address for Arrupe’s 8th Commencement Ceremony since being founded in 2015. He praised Arrupe College’s innovative approach as “imagining the future,” and commended graduates for their hard work, urging them to have the courage to believe in their own impact. Garanzini received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters for his leadership in Jesuit education.

President Mark C. Reed also congratulated the Class of 2025, thanked supporters, and referenced Pope Francis’s message to educate “diligent dreamers” dedicated to serving others.
“As I look at you and shake each of your hands, I see diligent dreamers,” Reed said. “You have received much during your time at Loyola, but remember that your education ultimately is not for you alone. It is for you to serve and make a difference in your community, your chosen profession, your family, your life, and the lives of others.”
Esdaini Lopez (AA ’25), was the student speaker. Lopez will continue at Loyola to obtain her bachelor’s degree in political science.
