This Earth Month, organizations across Loyola will champion environmental initiatives and host events aimed at building a more sustainable future. Events offer something for everyone, from faculty and staff training to student volunteer opportunities and interdisciplinary performances.

These Earth Month activities demonstrate Loyola’s commitment to promoting sustainability throughout April and year-round.

April 4
  • The Food Recovery Network is presenting a local sustainable dinner from Pasta Bowl at 7:45 p.m. in the Crown Center Auditorium. Food and drinks will be provided.
April 9
April 13
  • Student Environmental Alliance, Food Recovery Network, and the Restoration Club will host an EcoProm at 7 p.m. at the Damen Student Center Sister Jean MPR. Guests are encouraged to wear sustainable, secondhand outfits.

  • Loyola’s Ignatian Voices and the New Earth Ensemble from The EcoVoice Project present an exploration of the “mass reimagined” as a spiritual platform for contemplating climate change at 3 p.m. at Madonna della Strada. Supported by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts and The Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage, students from the School of Environmental Sustainability will join the performance to read selections from Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’ encyclical, with performances from University Chorale and University Singers.
May 1-10
  • The School of Environmental Sustainability will organize volunteers to sort donations from Loyola’s move-out donation program.

Loyola’s commitment to the environment extends far beyond Earth Month. The University has been a leader in sustainability for years, and it recently received a STARS Gold rating in recognition of Loyola’s sustainability achievements.

Last month, Loyola hosted “Feeding a Changing World: Climate Change and Global Food Systems,” the University’s annual conference on climate change. At the event, experts explored how climate change impacts global food security and discussed strategies for developing equitable, resilient, and sustainable food systems.
