CHICAGO – October 1, 2024

Loyola University Chicago announced today that Jim Parenti, EdD, has been appointed as Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies effective November 1, 2024.

Parenti currently serves as Senior Advisor to the President of Georgetown University. Since joining Georgetown 16 years ago, Parenti has served in a variety of leadership roles including Senior Associate Dean and Chief Administrative Officer of the School of Continuing Studies, Dean of the Georgetown Global Education Institute, and Associate Dean of the Semester in Washington Program.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Parenti into our community,” said Provost Douglas W. Woods. “In his nearly twenty years as a leader in Jesuit, Catholic higher education, Dr. Parenti helped to transform graduate and professional studies at one of the world’s preeminent universities.”

During his time at Georgetown, Parenti helped lead the university’s COVID-19 response, coordinated two Jesuit Mission Priority Examens, managed the construction of the new 91,000 square foot home of The School of Continuing Studies, and developed collaborative enrollment programs with The National Press Club, The U.S. Department of Defense and The U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

“I am honored to join the Loyola University Chicago community,” said Parenti. “The University’s deep commitment to expanding access and affordability in higher education presents the School of Continuing and Professional Studies with an incredible opportunity to meet life-long learners, returning students, military veterans, and so many more underserved groups where they are in their educational journey.”

In addition to his Georgetown experience, Parenti previously served as the Senior Associate Dean and Chief Administrative Officer at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he successfully managed key administrative operations, strategic school-wide initiatives, and enrollment management efforts for the largest and most diverse school of international affairs in the United States.

Prior to working in higher education, Parenti served in a variety of senior roles in government including as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as a Press Secretary in the administration of Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, and Director of Communications for the Mayor of Syracuse, New York. He also was elected to two terms on the Local School Council for The William B. Ogden School in Chicago.

A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University, Parenti holds a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing and completed his Doctoral studies at The Peabody School at Vanderbilt University.
