Loyola University Chicago has released the 10th edition of its Faculty Handbook, a key document that reflects the University’s ongoing growth and commitment to academic excellence. The newly revised Handbook captures significant changes across the University and offers an essential guide for faculty members who fulfill Loyola’s mission of fostering educational excellence in the service of the greater good.
In the years since the previous edition was published, Loyola has evolved into one of the largest Jesuit universities in the nation, now serving over 17,000 students. During this time, the University has expanded its offerings, including more than 30 online and blended degree programs, and launched new schools and centers to support a vibrant and inclusive intellectual community. The updated Faculty Handbook embodies these advancements and reaffirms Loyola’s commitment to providing a premier education for all students.
Among the key updates in the revised Handbook are the creation of the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health and the School of Environmental Sustainability, as well as structural changes to the University’s shared governance system. These updates reflect Loyola’s ongoing dedication to fostering collaboration and innovation across its campuses.
The 10th edition of the Faculty Handbook is the result of extensive collaboration among University administrators and Faculty Council with input from key stakeholders across the University. This revised version is more than a contract between the University and its faculty—it is a reflection of the evolving landscape of higher education and Loyola’s dedication to ensuring that faculty are supported in their roles as educators and researchers.
“The revised Faculty Handbook reflects an important step forward for the university,” said Markeda Newell, vice provost for faculty affairs. “It not only updates our organizational structure and policies but also signals our commitment to aligning our practices with the needs and aspirations of our faculty. This is just the beginning of a continuous process of growth and adaptation.”
The revised Handbook was submitted to and approved by Loyola’s Board of Trustees, marking a new chapter in the University’s ongoing pursuit of excellence.
