Things to Do at Loyola: April 9–23

The end of the semester may be on the horizon, but there’s still plenty to do at Loyola. In the next two weeks, enjoy performances by Department of Fine and Performing Arts students, celebrate the beginning of spring with Holi, and cheer on the Ramblers as they take on Ball State. Here’s a selection of events to add to your calendar: 

 

Pop Mart Night 

April 9, 6 p.m.–8 p.m., Damen Den 

The Department of Programming will host a Pop Mart event where students can make their own clay figurines based on the pop mart inspirations. There will also be a claw machine where students will have a chance to win their own pop mart-like blind boxes. 

 

Fine and Performing Arts Showcases 

April 10-May 18, Lake Shore Campus 

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts will be hosting a series of showcases, recitals, and performances throughout April to highlight the work of graduating senior students and ensembles. Showcases will include vocal, instrumental, and dance performances.  

 

Loyola Student Film Festival 2025 

April 12, 4 p.m.–7:30 p.m., Damen Cinema 

The LUC Film Club will host their annual film festival, featuring student-submitted media. A variety of topics will be shown, and food will be provided on a first come, first served basis. 

 

Holi 

April 12, Noon-1:15 p.m., Regis MPR 

The Hindu Students’ Organization will host a Holi: Splashing Into Color event. Holi is a festival of colors that marks the beginning of spring in the Hindu religion. Indian snacks will be provided and all are invited to the Winthrop Playlot to participate in playing Holi. Check out photos from last year’s celebration.  

 

Men’s Volleyball vs. Ball State 

April 12, 5 p.m., Gentile Arena 

In their final home game of the season, Men’s Volleyball will host Ball State in Gentile Arena. Along with the final game of the season, graduating seniors will be honored, and the Men’s Volleyball Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will take place.  

 

Holy Week Services 

April 13-20, Madonna della Strada  

During Holy Week, Campus Ministry will host a number of masses and events to commemorate the Easter holiday. From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, masses will be held for all students, staff, and community partners to attend. Learn more about Lent and Holy Week celebrations at Loyola.  

 

The Effectiveness of Bank Regulation and the Resulting Resiliency of the Financial System 

April 15, 9:15 a.m.–4 p.m., Regent’s Hall 

The third annual policy conference brings together researchers, policymakers, and financial executives to examine critical issues shaping the financial sector such as bank regulations and the evolving financial landscape. 

 

Ashlar’s Graduation Party 

April 15, 12 p.m.–1 p.m., Damen Atrium 

After eight years of tail wags and stress relief sessions, Ashlar, Loyola’s therapy dog, is graduating from Loyola. Community members can attend a special ceremony, take photos, and show their appreciation for Ashlar’s years of service as he receives his “dogtorate.” 

 

The Vision of Mary McLeod Bethune 

April 15, 5:30 p.m., Information Commons, 4th Floor 

Noliwe Rooks, chair of Africana Studies and L. Herbert Ballou University professor in Africana Studies at Brown University, will present “I Leave You Hope, I Leave You Faith, I Leave You Love” to discuss the life, advocacy, and inspiration of activist and political advisor Mary McLeod Bethune. This event is presented by the Black Metropolis Research Consortium, University Libraries, and Women and Leadership Archives.  

 

Annual Cardinal Bernardin Common Cause Lecture 

April 22, 7 p.m.–8:30 p.m., McCormick Lounge, Coffey Hall 

The Hank Center for The Catholic Intellectual Heritage will host Rev. Mark J. Seitz, bishop of El Paso and Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Migration, for his presentation “Images and Likenesses: Immigration, Dignity, and the Soul of America,” exploring the theological and moral obligations to care for migrants and refugees.
